Intensity 4 quake hits Surigao

MANILA -- A magnitude 4 earthquake hit the capital of Surigao province Monday night. No damage was reported.

Renato Solidum, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology director, said the epicenter of the tremor was traced 47 kilometers northwest of Surigao del Sur's capital town, Tandag.

The temblor was felt before midnight at 11:46 pm.

Intensity II was felt in Surigao City, Dapa and Surigao del Norte.

Solidum said they are not expecting any aftershocks.

The Philippines sits along the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquakes and volcanic activities are frequent. (PNA)
