Surigao Norte PNP apprehends 30 ‘ushers’

The relentless campaign against illegal numbers game known as suertres resulted to the apprehension of more than 30 ushers and coordinators in the province. According to PSSupt Antonio Belarmino Paguirigan, PNP Provincial Director, 30 personalities were already charged in the court. He vowed that the campaign will not stop until suertres financiers will be toppled down.

Paguirigan bared that just this month a number of suspects were already arrested for the possession gambling paraphernalia.

Last January 28, a certain Michael Baja Orias, 29 years old, married and a resident of Malimono, Surigao del Norte was caught for allegedly collecting suertes bets.

Orias was nabbed while the San Francisco PNP conducted a checkpoint in San Francisco town, while the suspect was on board a black Motorstar motorcycle without plate number. Taken from Orias were 25 pcs. tally sheet with bet numbers, a nokia cellphone, a one unit Motorstar motorcycle and bet money amounting to P27.00. He was the brought to the Provincial Prosecutors Office and was charged for the violation of RA 9287, which provides stiffer penalties for the offense. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)
