Tagana-an Mayor survived in ambush

Tagana-an Mayor Cesar Diaz survived an ambush near the boundary of Barangays Laurel and Union, Tagana-an, this province around 11:20am Monday, April 18, 2011.

According to 30th Infantry “Python” Battalion Commanding Officer LTC Erwin Rommel Lamzon, Mayor Diaz was driving his Toyota Fortuner along with his four companions en route to Surigao City when they were ambushed by a still undetermined number of gunmen.

PO2 Anthony Pontevedra and Gagay Diaz were wounded in the attack and were all brought to a private hospital for medical treatment.

Mayor Diaz, in an interview, said that his political opponents may be behind the attack. Police are currently conducting an investigation on the incident. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)
