City Mayor Ernesto Matugas said the fight for freedom does not end with the commemoration of the Independence Day for the country is still under the bondage of poverty.
Meanwhile, Gov. Sol Matugas has committed to uphold the ideals of democracy and freedom. She vowed that under her watch, “Every Surigaonon can live in dignity caring for one another in a free, peaceful, progressive, and environment-friendly Surigao del Norte, anchored on our faith in the Divine Providence.”
2nd district Rep. Guillermo Romarate reminded every Filipinos how our forefathers launched the revolution and the role of Surigao City in the history of revolution.
“When President Aguinaldo declared our independence in Kawit, Cavite, the Philippine flag was first hoisted in Surigao, which was then the cabisera or seat of government of the former province of Caraga. It was then that freedom was also felt in Mindanao.”
Attended by the employees and heads of line agencies, private sectors, and NGOs, the celebration culminated with a tableau presentation on the life of Dr. Jose Rizal by the pupils of Bonifacio Elementary School. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)
