DA chief to visit Surigao Norte anew

SURIGAO DEL NORTE, July 11 -- Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Proceso Alcala will arrive today, July 11 in Surigao City for a three-day visit in the province.

Provincial agriculturist Gromyko Geraldino said upon arrival at the Surigao City Airport, Alcala along with his undersecretaries and all regional directors will proceed to Siargao Island for an executive committee meeting.

Geraldino said they will be expecting around 120 guests from DA together with heads of its attached agencies, such as Philippine Coconut Authority, Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, Agricultural Training Institute, and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, among others, to proceed to Siargao Island.

Alcala will also see the status of some identified agri-fishery projects in the island and meet the agriculture and fishery stakeholders to respond and act on the issues and concerns that they may raise. “Right after their executive meeting on July 12, Sec. Alcala will grace the Farmers-Fisherfolks Forum at Gen. Luna. At 3 p.m., the secretary will then visit our demonstration farm at Brgy. Cancohoy in Del Carmen to lead the launching and groundbreaking ceremony of our organic agriculture, demo farm and warehouse,” Geraldino added.

The last day of the secretary’s visit will be capped with a press conference in Surigao City.

It was learned that Alcala’s visit will be his second time in the province. His first visit was in January last year where he met with farmers, local chief executives, NGOs/POs and the local media. (RER/FEA/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
