According to Dr. Alicante, Mpox is a zoonotic disease—originating from animals—and is transmitted through direct contact, such as sexual activity, hugging, kissing, or using items contaminated with the virus.
While cases have already been recorded in various parts of the Philippines, including some nearby provinces in Mindanao, only one suspected case has been reported in Caraga. However, laboratory results confirmed that the case tested negative for the virus.
Dr. Alicante further emphasized that Mpox is a serious disease, with reported fatalities in some areas.
Common symptoms include skin rashes or lesions, fever, headaches, body aches, and fatigue.
