SAN JOSE, DINAGAT ISLANDS – Amid ongoing dry season challenges, the members of the Provincial Water Security Council Core Group gathered recently to address the worsening water shortage affecting the entire province.
Held at the People’s Hall in the IJN Yamashiro Building in San Jose town, the meeting tackled urgent issues tied to limited water access and its impact on agriculture, tourism, public health, and emergency response.
Governor Nilo P. Demerey, Jr., stressed the importance of securing alternative water sources for both short-term emergencies—such as fire outbreaks and calamities—and long-term development plans for the province.
Among the strategies discussed were the implementation of a Water Rationing and Truck Mobilization Plan, support mechanisms for tourism facilities vulnerable to water scarcity, and contingency systems for fire response during drought conditions.
Governor Demerey also announced a partnership between the Provincial Government and San Miguel Corporation, which will enable the towns of Cagdianao, Dinagat, and San Jose to tap into the Del Pilar Water Reservoir as a new water source.
