Surigao Norte's Bonok-bonok contingent grand champ in 2nd Calagan Festival

The Bonok-bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw contingent of Surigao del Norte represented by Surigao del Norte National (SNNHS) walked away proud from this year's Calagan Festival after bagging the most coveted crown in the competition held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Provincial Sports Complex.

Now in its second year, the competition forms part of the celebration of the 15th Anniversary of Caraga Region, which highlighted the showcase of "WOW Caraga: Calagan Festival," from February 22-27, 2010 spearheaded by the Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga Region. In this year's festival, SNNHS contingent brought with them P100, 000 as their winning prize.

Meantime, the Bonok-bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw contingent of Surigao City represented by Surigao West Central Elementary School (SWCES) was named as 1st runner-up with P80, 000 cash prize. The 2nd runner-p was the festival from Cantilan town in Surigao del Sur, the Sirong Festival, that won a P60,000 cash prize.

Also, special awards for Best in Choreography with P20,000 cash prize and Best in Costume with P10,000 cash prize all went to SNNHS contingent. Furthermore, special award for Best in Streetdancing with P20,000 cash prize went to SWCES.

Consolation prizes amounted to P10,000 each were given to the non-winning contingents that include Bugkosan Festival of the Province of Dinagat Islands, Karawasan Festival of Bislig City and Dagkot Festival of Cabadbaran City. (PIA)
