Former DepEd Director proclaims winner in Surigao Norte gubernatorial race

The Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) here finally proclaimed former education Caraga regional director Sol Matugas at past 11pm, Saturday(May 15).

Matugas, a Lakas-Kampi-CMD candidate, got 111,225 votes against her rival, incumbent gov. Robert Ace Barbers of Nacionalista Party (NP) with 109,011 votes. She will be the first woman to serve as governor in the province of Surigao del Norte.

Also, Atty. Carlos Egay, Jr. of Lakas won in the vice-gubernatorial race with 100,237 votes against the incumbent vice-governor Atty. Noel Catre who only got 89,738 votes.

1st district Representative Atty. Francisco Matugas was also declared winner with 34,164 votes against Atty. Constantino Navarro III with only 24,349 votes.

Incumbent congressman Guillermo Romarate, Jr., Ph.D dominated in the 2nd district with race with 83,912 votes while challenger City Mayor Alfonso Casurra received 81,207 votes.

Proclaimed board members for the 1st and 2nd districts are as follows:

First District

1. Mamerto Galanida - 22,526 votes
2. Simeon Vicente Castrence - 20,973 votes
3. Dr. Cesar Bagundol - 18,932 votes
4. Margarito Longos - 18,900 votes
5. Edgar Andanar - 17,574 votes

Second District

1. Myrna Romarate - 81,176 votes
2. Atty. Fernando Larong - 65,087 votes
3. Leonilo Aldonza - 63,332 votes
4. Regina Alaan - 55,891 votes
5. Victor Borja - 55,556 votes
