3 fishermen from Samar rescued off Dinagat Islands

Three fishermen from Samar were rescued off Dinagat Islands province in the Caraga Region late Thursday afternoon, according to a flash report reaching the regional command and tactical operation center here of the Police Regional Office 13.

The report received by PRO-13 regional director Chief Supt. Lino D. Calingasan stated that the fishermen were found in good health condition after medical check-up and had returned to their respective homes on Friday morning.

The rescued fishermen were identified as Alberto M. Ortiz, Ricky Grabador, and Modes Mosquida, all residents of Purok Mabuhay, Barangay Osmena, Marabut, Samar province in Eastern Visayas or Region 8.

They were rescued by a search team organized by the police in Dinagat Islands and local fishing group and residents of Tubajon town, Dinagat Islands province.

Investigation disclosed that the three fishermen were fishing between Samar and Dinagat Islands on Wednesday when their boat suffered mechanical trouble and ran out of gasoline amid bad weather condition.

When the fishermen failed to return home on the same day, relatives of the fishermen immediately sought assistance of the local government units and police in Dinagat Islands for search and rescue operations.

The victims were rescued along the Mabangan seas of Barangay Imelda, Tubajon, Dinagat Islands. (MUC)
