Solar dryer to boost seaweeds industry

Governor Jade B. Ecleo recently turned-over one unit elevated multi-purpose solar dryer to the seaweeds growers of Barangay New Mabuhay, municipality of Dinagat Islands. The project is initiated by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Fisheries Division, under the supervision of Senior Aquaculturist Zenda S. Elago.

In an interview with the Provincial Agriculturist Oswaldo T. Borja, the P33,480.00 worth of solar dryer is one of the priority projects of Governor Jade’s administration in her aim of making Dinagat Islands the seaweeds capital of Caraga Region. He added that this is in support to the promotion of seaweeds production as an alternative livelihood for the fisherfolk. The equipment would ensure quality-dried seaweeds that are fast becoming a lucrative business for both the local and international market. (Lito A.
