MGB-13 reports Geohazard situation in Caraga Region

With the continuous rains experienced in the whole province, the Mines and GeoSciences Bureau (MGB-13) reported the Geohazard situation in Caraga Region.

In its January 4, 2010 report, the evacuation had been initiated at the cites and municipalities of Butuan City, Surigao City, Bunawan and San Francisco in Agusan del Sur, Taganaan in Surigao del Norte, Cantilan, Barobo and San Miguel in Surigao del Sur.

In Surigao City and Surigao del Norte, flooding had generally subsided starting Monday afternoon. However, flooding in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur has not yet stabilized. In Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte the Del Carmen-San Benito Road is not passable due to flood.

Some roads in Dinagat Island and Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur specifically the Los Arcos Road in Awa-Azpetia area that connects the provinces of Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur and the Talacogon-Lapaz Road in Agusan del Sur are reported non –passable at the moment due to minor landslides along roads.

The report also said that power outage is in effect in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur and Barobo, Surigao del Sur. Radyo ng Bayan Tower in Tandag, Surigao del Sur toppled down due to strong gale winds.

The MGB-13 is continuously coordinating with partner national line agencies and LGU for further developments. Ready alert levels for floods and landslides are still in effect. MGB monitoring team has also been deployed to monitor situation of operating mines in Claver-Carrascal area. (Susil Ragas, PIA-Surigao del Norte)
