The weather station recorded 203.5 millimeters of rainfall from Jan. 1 to 16, nearly double the 108.9 millimeters usually recorded this month, said Engr. Oscar Tabada of the Pagasa- Mactan.

A 20-year-old man was reported missing yesterday after he went swimming in a river in Carcar town, southern Cebu.
The town has been experiencing knee-deep flooding in its two villages since Sunday.
Jerwin Cañada of sitio Caipilan, Poblacion 1, Carcar City, went missing after he jumped into the river in sitio Pondol, Poblacion 2 about 9:15 a.m.
Police said Cañada, his father and a friend just arrived Monday morning after selling bottled water during the Sinulog parade in Cebu City.
Cañada decided to swim in the river although he was warned that the current was strong. He jumped in and never surfaced.
The town’s national highway was knee-deep in floowdwater in barangay Poblacion 2 when the river overflowed. About 50 families were affected by floodwater entering their houses but the water later subsided.
The rains also forced Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific to cancel flights to Siargao and Surigao yesterday.
Air Philippines canceled flight 2P-087 Cebu-Surigao and flight 2P-088 Surigao-Cebu while Cebu Pacific canceled flight 5J-877 Cebu-Siargao and 5J-878 Cebu-Siargao.
The Mactan office of the airlines said there was zero visibility in Siargao and Surigao due to heavy rains.
The cancellation has inconvenienced several domestic and foreign travelers like Carl ELudo who was supposed to fly back to Surigao yesterday at 7:20 a.m. on board Air Philippines.
He already checked in but was notified to get his baggage and refund his terminal fee after the airline company canceled their flights due to zero visibility in Surigao.
Eludo was in Cebu for the Sinulog festival and was supposed to attend a cousin’s wedding in Surigao later that afternoon.
“There is nothing I can do. I will just rebook my flight. I don’t want to take the risk of flying back to Surigao in rainy weather conditions,” he said.
A group of foreigners from Great Britian were supposed to go surfing in Siargao and had to change plans when Cebu Pacific cancelled the 10:40 a.m. flight to Siargao.
