Malaysian Investor Group Visits Surigao City

A group of investors from Malaysia visited the city this weekend to look into various investment prospects in the locality. Led by Mr. Anthony Phong, Managing Director of Malindo Multi-Resources based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Mr. Jimmy Hua, Executive Director of Era-Quorum Global, called on City Mayor Ernesto Matugas last March 19, 2011, at his office.

The City Planning & Development Office staff led by Acting Planning Coordinator Ms. Diana Edera prepared a presentation-briefing at the Office of the City Mayor for the investor group. Aside from the standard socio-economic profile briefing, the planning staff presented the profiles of selected projects such as the Nonoc Nickel Refinery and Special Economic Zone, the Fishing Port Complex, the Agro-Industrial Estate Project, New Public Cemetery, and West-Coast Business Park Development.

Mr. Phong of Malindo Resources – Malaysia, expressed his sincere appreciation and keen interest in the presentation especially the numerous potentials that the city can offer in terms of business and industrial development. The Malindo Resources Group has shown initial intent on the Fishing Port Project and the business park development venture.

Mr. Hua of Era-Quorum Global on the other hand expressed further interest in the city’s mining industry and requested the city planning staff for related details and additional information on the city and province’s mining industry profile.

The herein series of visits of various investor groups to the city are the initial results of the aggressive promotion being undertaken by the City Mayor himself in various trips to Metro Manila. Earlier last week, the Chairman of the Wellex Group of Companies William Gatchalian visited the city and the industrial site of Nonoc Island. A group of prospective Korean Investors was also here two weeks before to look into potential business projects in the city.Uriel Eugenio S. Correos
