Mental health facility for Caraga

The region’s 1st Mental Health Facility will soon rise in the Caraga Region’s nickel city of Surigao.

The formal groundbreaking of the site for the construction of the building was held over the weekend right behind the Surigao City Health Office.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by top local government health officials led by Surigao City Mayor Alfonso S. Casurra, and City Councilors Peñaflor Laxa, and Floripen Tating, region’s health Assistant Regional Director Cesar Cassion, Program Manager on Drug Abuse Flordeliz Llesis, and City Health Officer Aldine Morales.

Due to pressing demand, the ground works on the new Mental Health Facility were immediately started right after the groundbreaking for the benefit of the deranged brothers and sisters scattered at various parts in the region, particularly in the nickel city.

During the groundbreaking program, Casurra emphasized that the center will initially serve as a half-way house for the temporary accommodation and treatment of said patients.

“Let us help these people today because tomorrow will be too late. They are also human beings who need care and attention,” added the city chief executive.

Meanwhile, in a separate groundbreaking occasion, the local government of Surigao City is also set to construct a school building in a new site of the Cantiasay National High School, also of that same city, it was gathered.

After the groundbreaking ceremony, the construction of the new structure also immediately commenced due to its urgent need.
The new school building is targeted to be completed by the end of June this year.

Casurra wanted students to have a more conducive place for learning.

At present, the high school students are temporarily sharing an area with the elementary pupils. (mb)
