AFP, PNP to pursue perpetrators of the recent bomb scare in Surigao City

4th Infantry Division Commander MGen. Victor Felix vowed to pursue the perpetrators of the recent bomb scare in Surigao City.

“We will look after the perpetrators of the said incident together with the Surigao PNP. Dapat lang na managot ang mga NPA (New People's Army) na ‘yan sa kanilang ginawa dahil pati mga walang kalaban-laban na civilians ay nadadamay sa kanilang pakikipaglaban sa ating gobyerno.”

MGen. Felix made the statement after a grenade, allegedly owned by communist terrorist CPP-NPA was found placed inside a black bag at Km. 8, Brgy. Bonifacio, Surigao City.

A report from the 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade of the 4th ID, PA revealed that around 6:15pm, Saturday, May 28, a grenade was found by two children at the aforementioned place.

Upon receipt of the information, elements of the 30th Infantry Battalion and 42nd Civil-Military Operations (CMO) Company led by 1Lt. Joe Patrick Martinez immediately secured the area to protect the people and onlookers while waiting for the Explosive and Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of Surigao City PNP to properly dispose the said item.

EOD team recovered the following items, one PRB hand grenade (sealed w/ black electrical tape), one stainless knife, three pcs gas stove needle, four pcs black ball pen, and one nylon belt.
In a radio interview, Surigao City PNP Chief PC/Insp. Rudy Elandag called on the people to remain vigilant and to exercise extra-ordinary security in trying to protect the city from these terrorist attacks.

“We assure you that the police and military authorities with all the possible means to stop these unlawful activities and those who are responsible in these series of attacks in our beloved city,” said Elandag. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)
